Actually it makes sense that the one who asks for a date is the one to pay but then as an old-fashioned or yes, one can also call it traditional, person (like me) one would never ask a man for a date anyway. So no matter what...in my book the man pays until I am in a relationship with him.
So, I don't agree with #2 either.
