I find my name hard to translate it. The fact that my mom was watching the movie Lean on Me and decided to name me Keniesha. I didn't have a spanish name either when I was learning spanish. My teacher always called me by my first name.

The characters are the same though there is a slight dialectical difference between cantonese and mandarin writing in some areas. It's no different than American versus UK english plus the accent shift. I'm sure there are members more fluent with phonetic and historical differences between the two dialects who can chime in their thoughts. But mainly, it's an accent shift and yes, the meanings are the same.

I do not know if I will ever truly learn. There is so much to study, the accent shifts, the dialects, the meanings. I guess if I just studied vocabulary and meanings i could build words up but still that leaves out sentence structure. I want to be fluent so badly but how do you choose mandarin or chinese if you arent native to either or? Which is better for a foreigner to learn if they want to make friends?

Mandarin by far is easier for the native english speaker. There are 5 intonations for mandarin as opposed to cantonese which has 9. Thus, making the phonetics closer to the english tongue. Most chinese signs are translated to english using the mandarin phonetics btw.. since it's directed at english speakers. Mandarin is the official language of china so not too hard in choosing which one. If I had to start over as a kid I would choose mandarin over cantonese myself simply because of its prevalence in use.

When there is no translation you can always pic a similar name or spell it out phonetically.

Like they would probably say your name is Concha in spanish which means conceptions (sometimes seashell). In Italian it would be Cinzaa which is a form of cynthia.

Neisha sounds very persian. Nousha means pleasant person and Nuisha means good listener.
