LOL@dead from a nuclear holocaust.. not that I think it will happen.
I somehow feel it will be English. I can't explain why, just a feeling.

I voted for Chinese because they have so many people and because I think China will be a more and more important power in the world.

I put Chinese, even though I know it won't be the TOP language for everything, it still is the emerging popular language to know, at least for people who ALREADY know English. China's market is expanding, its economic power is exponentially growing, it's involved in major organizations and committees around the world like the UN Security Council, and it is increasingly competitive with many countries. I'm so glad to be learning Mandarin!

English has, since the last 50 yrs, been the world's most used language for purpose of written communication, and language of commerce and economics. English is the 3rd most spoken language in the world after mandarin and hindu. English has the most words of any language at over 1 mil and counting including all the thousands of technical, research, and medical terminology added every year. No language even comes CLOSE! An educated adult will only know 50-60K words in a lifetime. So will english be the number one language in the world in terms of spoken communication? Probably not and never will be due to population size of english language speakers versus the chinese population alone. So long as china's population growth doesn't stop dead in its tracks... LOL, that will never happen.. Will it be and continue to be the world's number language in terms of written communication and language of commerce? Sure it will.. As china's economy continues to grow and expand, sure.. more people will have to communicate in mandarin but the written form will still be mainly english esp. if they want western business.

Yeah, Chinese will gain a lot more popularity but it won't replace English as the official language in international dealings. I mean, can you imagine the air traffic controllers all over the world speaking Mandarin?
English will still be #1 and Chinese will be #2, but a distant 2nd. |

I think it will be English. I believe that the US will have a lot of power in the future and that China will be right up there with us. But I don't believe that Chinese will be the dominant language in that respect.

Imo, english will be the language of the future. Why? Because of media influence. USA shows are popular, and british media is always present. In Switzerland people start to say some words in english every day and in the radio people hear english music every day.
