Lin Chi Ling was talent-scouted on the streets of Taiwan at the age of 15, but her parents, being typically Asian, were initially against her becoming a model. They eventually relented, but only after she had furthered her education and armed herself with a host of qualifications any Asian parent would be proud of.


Lin recently topped an online poll, in which netizens voted for the most beautiful pair of legs in Asia. The 174cm-tall Taiwanese supermodel is blessed with shapely legs measuring 113cm long. She attended the University of Toronto, Canada, and double-majored in Economics and Western Art History. She later went to Japan to futher her studies.


Fielding questions from both the Chinese and English media at a press conference at the launch of leg massager OSIM uSqueez, she switched effortlessly between Mandarin and English. Apart from these, she speaks fluent Japanese and Cantonese, as well.


Her multi-lingual skills leave no doubt in one’s mind as to why she is one of the top product ambassadors in Asia.

This is Lin's second visit to Malaysia. As she has Asia's most beautiful legs, we asked for her take on legs.

“I think our legs are very important because we put the weight of our whole body on them every single day. As our legs work so hard to support our whole body, we should take very good care of them and pamper them more.”



Notwithstanding the allure of luscious limbs, what does the leggy beauty think makes a woman attractive?

“I think the most important thing for any woman to have that can make her always attractive is a pleasant attitude, a cheerful outlook, and an effervescent disposition that radiates to those around her.”
On handling stress, Lin said: “I think stress is an element that nobody can impose upon you; only you can impose it upon yourself. So, I think it's up to you whether or not to let it go.

“I try to let it go. If I’m under stress all the time, I won’t be able to achieve my goals, and I won’t be good at my job.

“I’m sure everybody has ups and downs. So, I tell myself that other people need not absorb my unfavourable vibes.”

So, what does she see herself doing 10 years from now?
“That’s a good question. In 10 years, I’ll be 40-something. I think I’ll be a good housewife (laughs), with a happy family (more laughter), and live happily ever after, just like in a fairy tale.



Tips on health and beauty
So, how does the supermodel keep fit and healthy despite her hectic schedule?

“I think looking healthy includes a really positive attitude, physically and mentally. As for the mental aspect, just be positive and be happy.
“I’ll have to admit that I’m very health conscious. To have a healthy body, one needs regular exercise, a balanced diet and proper nutrition. Another thing I really like is massage.”

Since she maintains a healthy diet, does that mean she avoids certain foods?
“No, not really. I have a really big appetite. I’m sure you’ve heard. And I indulge in sweet foods. I think it’s okay to eat what you like, as long as you exercise regularly, have good dietary habits and keep a healthy lifestyle. Try to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, maybe a 70% portion of your diet, and less meat and other things.

“Apart from what I mentioned earlier, I think my beauty routine which differs a is probably the fact that I drink lots of water, and I stay away from air-conditioning. I think if you can make yourself sweat a bit, it helps you to detoxify.”

It can’t be easy maintaining the most beautiful legs in Asia. Does Lin avoid active sport or strenuous activities in order to keep her legs blemish-free?
“Not really. I’m used to going to the gym to sweat it out, all the time. And I love swimming. Sometimes, I think I might be a mermaid. I play around in the water a lot. I like how it gives me a great all-over full-body workout.
“And sometimes I’d work out on the stepping machine, the stepper. And the hula hoop, I think that really helps, and it’s something everybody can do at home.”

What specific exercises does she do to keep her legs toned and shapely?
“Specifically for the legs, you can do some lifting, like this from the back. (She gestured with her hand to show how her leg stretched.)
“For most Asian women, it’s particularly the bottom that’s the problem. So, it would really help lifting the leg, holding it for awhile and really feeling the tension of the muscle. That’s when it really works.
“Just do it for 15-20 minutes. Stretching also helps to keep the calves shapely.”

Acting debut
Lin is starring in Hong Kong director John Woo’s new film Red Cliff as Xiao Qiao, a Chinese beauty during the warring Three Kingdoms period (220-280).

The historical drama is reported to have an estimated budget of US$80mil (RM280mil), making it the most expensive Asian-financed film to date.
Xiao Qiao, wife of Zhou Yu (175-210CE), military commander of the Wu State emperor, is reputed to be one of the most beautiful women in Chinese history.

Filming of the lavish four-hour production is still underway, and Lin said she doesn’t have anything planned for the near future.
“Now, I just want to stay focused and concentrate on what I’m doing. If the filming goes well, I will continue acting. I’m getting to love it. Yes!” That will be such good news for her fans. And, we’ll all get to see more of her soon!
