Taiwan censors have approved the release of the full version of director Ang Lee's award-winning erotic spy thriller "Lust, Caution," a report said Saturday.

A five-member government committee voted unanimously on Friday that the film could be released rated "R" without any censorship, said the Taipei-based China Times.

"The artistic achievement of 'Lust, Caution' has been recognised after the (Golden Lion) award and it will better meet the public expectation to release the film uncut," the report quoted government film official Chen Chun-jhe as saying.

"Lust, Caution," which brought Lee his second Venice Film Festival Golden Lion for best picture, is set to open in Taiwan on September 24.

Lee has cut 30 minutes, mainly sex scenes and some violent scenes, from his movie to pass China's censorship rules and make it child friendly, according to Chinese state media.

The movie, called "Se, Jie," in Chinese, is a tense drama set in Japanese-occupied Shanghai in the 1940s. It has been given the NC-17 rating in the United States, banning viewers under 17 from watching it.
