Let's say there are 2 groups:

1st group: A bunch of Asian kids are adopted by non-Asian parents.
They were raised in an isolated region with no Asian influences at all. As a result the only Asian thing about them are their looks, NOThing else.

2nd group: THese ppl physically can pass as your average White AMericans. HOwever, somehow they could manage to keep the language and the culture of their Asian ancestors. They even still retain their Asian traditional dress.

I would say the 2nd group. Being Asian is more than about looking Asian. You must retain some of the culture. I think what makes you what you are is how you live. For instance, I look white, but my heart and how I live is more towards Asian. However, I still don't call myself Asian. I am just me.

I don't see anything remotely asian in the vid you posted unless I'm missing something here. Other than the flute sounds everything looks pretty much like another western ballad.

I agree with Pro. Looking the part is the superficial aspect. Understanding the history, respect, culture, practising, and "knowing" the customs like an indigenious asian is more apt to what you call a local.

By "asian" for purpose of this forum are Asians from the far east not central asians as in Turkey, Pakistan, Afghani, etc. The definition of the "far east asians" is china and countries that border china that clearly make up the greater china area or GCA. I think that's what made a difference in definition there.

Nationality - Neither. For me Tatars are not Asian they are middle eastern and those who are adopted asians by foreigners do not retain their citizenship unless the adopted parents ask for it.

Ethnicity - Physical wise the 1st group has it. Emotionally there would be a debate since they would be raised without asian traditions and culture but would know they were different.

Culturally - The 2nd only because the particular countries known that have Tatar indingeously are Boardered along China and South east asian countries. There would be some shared tradition, foods and langauge due to location alone.

I agree that 2nd group is more Asian. Absolutely agree that being Asian is more than the looks, but more importantly retain some of the cultural, understand where you come from and your root. Keep some of the good Asian Traditions, while add in the great value of American customs. I think that's a great advantage for a person who obtain the good from both cultural.
