Whats the proper term?
I have seen some people who are not full Asian ethnicity wise be called Eurasian? Is this a term that is out there now and used or is it a new term? When I think of the term Eurasian I think of someone who is living in Europe or is half of European decent in Europe?
How does that term fit with those who are American born? I've always used the term Hapa which was adopted from Hawaiian dialects to mean half Asian? And does this term exclude Black/Asians? What is the term for them? I have heard the term Blasian and Blackenese used before. How does this work since nationality, current location, physicall appearance and ethnicity can exclude some from terms that are used? What should we use in common conversation? |

I find Eurasian more or less denotes the parents background. If one of the parents are of european descent and the other asian, then they are classified as 'Eurasian' as the official term. Hapa is more the slang term and includes mixed kids who's parents are not necessarily european. Blasian/blackenese is the slang term for african descent/asian mix but I'm sure you know all that. If you want to be PC without insulting anyone and without using Eurasian like you're describing a continent LOL, then use "mixed" . That seems most appropriate in casual conversation or speaking to strangers. My 2 cents.
