Are you offended when...
When a girl asks your ethnicity or Cannot tell what type of ethnicity you are?
ALSO... Are you offended by girls who value Asian men via liking asian music, animation, movies or culture? Do you find those girls lacking as people? How about girls who like a specific asian nationality because of music or media? . |

I get offended when im on a date and she isnt curious about my background. I feel like im being used only for my body! IM NOT JUST A PIECE OF MEAT! (hahaha i wish)
But seriously, when im on a date and she keep on talking about herself, it automatically lights up the "High Maintenance" bulb. A major no no in my situation. Women who are like that are fine, as long as they can do it themselves without expecting a praise. |

I'm better at telling the different ethnicities apart by looking, than I used to be. I used to ask as well but not as much anymore.
I think if you ask the question and appear to be honestly interested, then most Asian guys don't mind answering it.

Hmm, for me it depends on HOW it is asked as opposed to the question itself. If someone asks me in derogatory or inflammatory way then I might share the same sentiment right back. However, if the person asking is truly genuine in wanting to know about me or my culture - and I think most ethnicities can sense this - then sure, yea.. I would tell them as way to educate them and likewise, me knowing more about their culture.

Personally I don't think it's a big deal for people to ask what my ethnicity is but I do crack up when someone asks: "where are you from?" Whenever I reply with "California, why?" they'd always have to ask a follow-up question.

you know, looking back at my post, it seems im off topic (2nd paragraph).
usually, they figure it out. Its because here, its so common to see different kind of ethnicity that you can distinguish the rest quite easily. Last edited by wbirkin; 07-08-2007 at 04:19 PM.. |

Eh, I don't mind.

I sometimes get, "what's your nationality?" To which I respond, "American," with a quizzical expression. Then I get, "you know what I mean." To which I respond, "no, I don't. Perhaps you can explain."

I don't understand why people like to make situations unnecessarily awkward. What good does it produce, besides making the other person uncomfortable, when you try to teach them to say "ethnicity"? It doesn't hurt to just be polite and answer what you know they meant..
