Well integrated?
Asian men, are you well integrated from where you live?

Define what you mean by "integrated"?? Do you mean racially diverse, racially open minded, accepting of all cultures?? Please explain.. ![]() . |

What I meant to say is, are you well accepted by your own fellow asians and other racially diverse people from where you live? And do you find it easy or difficult to be/live with your own fellow asians and other racially diverse people from where you live? Do you make activities/friendship with the people from where you live?

I live in a big city so I would say so. I have a pretty diverse group of friends (softball, cars, co-workers, friends from school, etc.). My softball friends are mostly white. My car friends are mostly Asian. My co-workers are all white, and school friends are about equal. I'd say everyone gets along and I've had no problems in my neighborhood. Once in a while I'll bump into a jerk or two but that's really more of an exception than anything.
I don't know if this would be true in the South. My friend (Korean) and I drove down to South Carolina for a weekend of golf at Myrtle Beach. We had a wonderful weekend and people seemed really nice. However, one night we were at a sea-food restaurant and some big guy walked by our table and did "ching-chong ching-chong!" I couldn't believe it. It would have been a perfect experience but that one a-hole ruined it. |

I live on the gulf coast, and here it's not like that really. I think that guy in the restaurant was just some asshole you could encounter just about anywhere. But here I never see that kind of thing. When I am with my Asian friends, people don't make comments like that. I do remember this one time though when a white friend of mine's cousin came to visit. She was from the north and while she was here and we all went out, I was driving by a curb store and she said something like "hey, can you stop at that chink shop so I can get some cigarettes"? I didn't say anything to her just then even though it offended me alot. So I stopped and let her get her cigarettes. Later on that night , she had smoked alot that evening and said once again "Can you stop at that chink shop again so I can get some more cigarettes"? Well, that time I said something. I told her that I would appreciate it if she wouldn't say that word around me again. She looked surprised but kept her mouth shut after that. Gee, it really did offend me. I didn't appreciate hearing that.

![]() So to answer your question long story short - nope, not difficult in this city. It is quite easy to be asian. In fact, many 2nd, 3rd generation asians want to learn about their heritage and culture as opposed to shying away from it as in other parts of North America. |

Wow, I've never heard of that term before. Ever. What is a "chink shop" anyway? Like a little corner deli or something?

It's a curb store that was owned by a vietnamese couple. There are some stores here that are owned by Asians. So basically she was saying "Stop by the curb store please" She didn't know if they were owned by Asians or not. She was just calling it a "chink" store. I took offense to the "chink". And not all curb stores around here are owned by Asians.

Most convenience stores up here are owned by asians. Koreans the most followed by chinese and vietnamese last. Indians are also a big group. Hell, most 7-11's here are staffed with south/south east asians. I've rarely seen black owned convenience stores except for those in predominantly black neighborhoods like Little Jamaica, Carribean or Trinidadian areas.
