Oh but people amuse me!
I had someone tell me the other day that the Opium Wars were "my people's fault" and that "we brought that stuff over and contaminated their women" In my sarcastic and dry humored fashion, and mind you I couldn't help myself because the opening was right there, I told him that I contaminated one of "his women" at least once a week! He didn't enjoy that at all...

I try to turn the other cheek using humor and public embarrassment when faced with an ignorant statement by a simple minded person, but I'm curious as to how other's deal with this type of situation.

One more great example, I had one guy try to tell me that it was the Chinese that bombed Peal Harbor... yeah you heard me, the Chinese bombed Pearl Harbor. So I told him that what I was about to tell him was considered a crack pot theory and that no one would believe it and would laugh at him if he repeated it, but it was the truth none the less... THE TRUTH!!!! I told him that it was the Germans that bombed Pearl Harbor... dressed as Chinese soldiers, and flying Japanese fighter planes. Wouldn't ya know it... he believed it.

Oh, do tell.. ignorance is a mindset, a train of thought not necessarily education will solve. In fact some pass off education as a perspective of ignorance and from whose viewpoint? The issue of "comfort women" during WWII can certainly lead the pack on that.

What is even more sad than ignorance, is when people are so stupid that they don't even know they are giving an insult. Or they are smart enough to know they are but stupid enough to not know how to put it in a clever way.

It's kind of funny you say that, because being an ABC that I am I don't have an accent that some people would "expect" an asian to have. I get "compliments" from people like "Wow you speak english really good" or "hey, you don't sound like you're Chinese"

Most times I laugh it off, but it does tend to get annoying when you talk to a girl and she is surprised you speak english quite well.
