Menswear gets skinnier, slimmer
Korean Herald
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...... Living Arts Menswear gets skinnier, slimmer All you fashion-forward men out there might want to go on a diet and register at a fitness club right now, as according to Korean menswear designers, the hot picks for the next cool seasons are skinnier pants and slimmer waistlines. Seoul Fashion Week`s menswear show ended Tuesday with 14 designers participating in the first two days of the 08/09 Fall/Winter Seoul Collection, currently on at the Seoul Trade Exhibition Center in southern Seoul. The event is jointly hosted by the Seoul Fashion Artists Association, the Korea Fashion Association and the Seoul Fashion Design Center and runs through March 24. Common elements coming down the runway were tight pants and exaggerated neck and shoulder lines. Some of the more daring designers even had models in leggings, paired with long coats and lengthy wool scarves or turtlenecks covering everything except the eyes. ![]() ▲Models present collections by Song ZioWhile red, yellow and sometimes glittering silver and gold were seen, the color that dominated was black. Song Zio, one of the most celebrated menswear designers in Seoul, again surprised the audience with his signature contemporary luxury looks. Adding to the excitement of his show, Song had celebrity clients or friends -- including model-turned-actor Cha Seung-won and TV actor Kim Heung-soo -- strutting his collection on the runway. The jackets in his collection had slightly more structured shoulders, tapering to much slimmer waistlines compared to previous seasons. Although he primarily used black and white, he mixed and matched a variety of fabrics like jersey, leather and wool. What stood out this season was the unexpected feminine touch that Korean designers added to their menswear collections. Chang Kwang-hyo mixed masculine and feminine elements while Son Sung-keun visualized powerless, neutral images of men who unconsciously refuse to grow up. Choi Bum-suk, who designs his own brand General idea by Bumsuk, created a playful and innocent image by mixing boxy styles with tightly tailored pants. His choice of fabrics -- soft knits and wool -- and lots of color lent his collection a youthful, fresh feel. For more information about Seoul Fashion Week, visit ¼*¿ïÄ÷º¼Ç By Cho Chung-un |
