I should qualify... I didn't mean anyone specific at ProAzn.com. It's a rant at my overall experience in the net re: chatrooms, forums, dating sites, social networking places, etc.

I agree with some of what you said LB. I have guys who keep asking even after noticing my profile that I'm attached and getting married. Ya, you get the occasional weirdo and nut cracker. Why the person who created the block/delete function deserves a nobel prize. LOL.

<<<Do you girls get annoyed when guys online ask you for your picture? I mean if you don't really know them yet. Or am I just getting irritated way to easily?<<<
Well, when I was still chatting a lot, they did not ask me for a picture because I had it already in the message window. But they asked me if I have a cam and that is what really made me mad. Not that they asked but that they did not leave me alone after I told them yes, I do have a cam but no, I don't want to turn it on. <<This happens to me so much .... guys always asking. But why? I really REALLY REALLY don't care what THEY look like. I don't really even want to know. We're NOT going to get married or something. It's the freaking friggin internet.<<< This is exactly what I thought too. With me it was the cam but well that is also like a picture of myself, so it is similar to your problem .<<<Anyway ..... I'm ranting now. So what do you girls think about guys asking for pictures? Is it annoying? Do they get weird after?<<< To me it is (well, was because I hardly chat anymore) annoying big time! But in the end I was so tired of always being asked why I don't open the cam, I just lied about it and said I don't have one. Just to have my peace...

We men are creatures of sight. Especially in the age of online dating and social networks, it's become so pervasive that personal pics are posted and publicly accessible on almost any network that people almost come to expect it.
Some guys are looking for the quick and cheap thrill, or some guys want to see who they are talking to, and then you'll have guys like the ones in "The Parlour" video that KimiSan linked. I think a lot of guys build up a perception of how someone looks like it their mind based on people's online persona and what they perceive to be subtle hints in the messages posted. When it turns out that reality doesn't match their version of who you are, things go a bit haywire lol. That video "The Parlour" just hits home on so many different levels. I can see how being pestered about divulging personal info/pics can be irritating. Some guys just throw all rationale and etiquette out the window when it comes to the internet. Rule#1 behave as you would at work. (though I am a little bit less of a clown at work )Some guys though are just morons and cretins on and offline.

it's all basically why I just put mine out there to begin with. Everyone just knows who they are dealing with.

I think the most obvious answer (other than the outright losers you wouldn't deal with IRL anyway) is most guys(and girls) know they have been lied to before online. Getting the pic out there just settles the issue. Now if both sides are honest and are upfront there are no issues to begin with. By far, webcam is the most transparent. You can't really fake all the speaking motions when the convo is ad lib and unprepared for on both sides. However I can understand what LB, Petra, and Kimisan have to say. No means NO even if online. It's the cretins who think "No" means try again. Manners fly out the window just cause seperation is by fibre optics than a coffee table.

did you really expect not to be asked to share your photos in dating sites? and i don't really understand what you meant by 'never meeting anyway' when you go to online dating sites. |

I agree with what everyone said. It depends on each situation. If someone gives me a bad impression right off the bat I just block/delete them without even talking pic or webcam stage. They won't even get a second chance to ask. I can be a bit black and white but sometimes you have to, to rid of the idiots.
