Insomnia finds me once again. Any known cures? It's been about 5 days of less than 2 hours of sleep a night.

This is a good idea. Getting in so exercise before you settle down will get your body tired, but you don't want to exercise RIGHT before you plan to go to bed or you'll just have woken yourself up.
Make time to relax before you go to sleep, don't run and gun and do a lot of thing right before you go to bed. Plan time to just relax. Take a hot bath, drink tea (nothing with Caffine. I would suggest getting "Sleepy Time" tea from Celestial Teas. Turn your clock away from you. Constantly checking the time can cause people to stay awake, so remove that distraction. Turn off your computer, don't give yourself a reason to stay up even if it's just surfing the internet. You probably have a lot on your mind, and for some people writing in a journal or diary or making lists can help with the stress caused with too much thought on the brain. You can try listening to soft music, nothing with words in it because words can be distracting. Try to find natural or soothing sounds there are plenty of CDs out there like that. Make yourself stay in bed. Don't continually get up and walk around or go do something. If you relax long enough your body should take over. Your body WANTS sleep. You can't function well on 2 hours of sleep per night. If NONE of this helps and you have this problem for an extended period of time then you might need to see a doctor about sleeping pills, only as a last choice though. You don't want to have to depend on drugs to get in a healthy sleeping pattern.

I try to make up a story, something totally fictional that has nothing to do with my life. This keeps me from thinking about whatever is on my mind that is keeping me awake.
tylenol pm is also nice.

Reading always helps me, though make sure it's a paperback. Also, I concur with the no caffiene near bedtime.

Watching boring black white 1930's films always put me to snooze mode! Never fails. LOL.

Wow 5 days with less than 2 hours sleep? How is that even possible? I can't even stay awake for more than 18 hours.
Here are some tips: 1) Camomile tea after dinner. My brother takes this to help him sleep. 2) 3 hours of exercise You should drop like a log if you do both. If that fails, you could always try warm milk ;p |

I often have this problem.
I am naturally nocturnal so I am hard to wake up in the morning and slow going down to bed at night. I know.. it's unhealthy but it's the way I am naturally. I have been this way since I was a kid. I remember my mom waking me up in the morning before school and sitting me at the dining table with a bowl of cereal trying to make me eat it. I would take a bite of it then when she left the table to get dressed, my head would slowly go down on the table, falling asleep again. A few mins later I would be startled awake by a pissed off Mom and then rushing to get dressed for school. To this day, I can't eat anything until at least 2 hours after waking up. I am also the world's worst person to have a decent converstation with first thing in the morning. The best thing to do is leave me alone until I start talking to you first. lol This is what I do to help me go to sleep at night sometimes when I am just way too awake to try to sleep. 1. Put a couple of drops of lavendar on the corners of your pillow. I am into aromatherapy and it works. The lavendar soothes you and makes you restful. Or you can take a hot bath in it before going to bed. 2. Shut your mind up. This is one of the hardest things to do for me when I lay down to sleep. I think too much so I have to focus my mind into one particular thing in order to shut it down enough to sleep. The best way for me to do this is a sleep meditation that I came up with to help me. You get into your normal position to sleep. Then you have your eyes closed and image a little white ball of light. You imagine in your mind that you are going over each part of your body slowly with that ball of light. I usually start at my toes and go up each inch of my body. Most of the time, I am asleep by the time I get to my waist.
