"Cum Survival"...when researchers are too tired...or too horny?!
OK, I have to take a break and report this:

I'm doing some freelance editing of medical research papers (yeah, I'm a workaholic), and I ran across a graph with the y-axis labeled "Cum Survival."

What the....%$#@?!

...What they really meant is "Cumulative Survival."

Wow, how can you submit that to a publisher without realizing what you are saying?!

Medical journals/articles contain quite a bit of abbreviations. Its really because of its practicality, since there are many jargons that are just too mouthful to type all the time. However, in certain cases, we use some fun short hands for entertainment. For instance, a protein complex called JAK originally meant "Just Another Kinase." There were some other funny examples like you found that I have seen before, but I just can't remember them off of my head right now.

My medical acronyms book has an entry for FLK, meaning "funny-looking kid," but in 18 years of editing, I have never seen it used.

At my last job, we were not supposed to allow FU (which innocently means "follow-up").
