Taboos to joke about in Korean culture?
Tonight i was hanging out with a Korean guy who lived in America for 1.5 years. My sister's friend called and he thought it would be funny if he pretended to be a policeman. He made a joke about my friend committing a crime in Dallas. (My friend didn't do anything bad...it was a joke). Believing him to be a policeman, i told my friend what my sis's friend said, and he was just furious. I did explain to him it was a joke, but he didn't find it funny, obviously. He told me to tell my sis's friend some mean things in return. (I didn't...) and he told me he doesn't want to see hang out with my family again. (My family has Sunday night dinners together, he already hung out last week with them...this Sunday it was just the two of us.) Anyways, my question is, what are some things that i shouldn't jest? I feel that anything is fair game to joke about, but i'm not sure of acceptable jokes when it comes to Korean culture. I know of two things i shouldn't take lightly; long-term commitment, and now reputation/face. Any others? Thanks in advance by the way. Sorry for the long post. (In case if its in the wrong thread, can someone move it to the right one? Thanks)
