Asian guys saying I love you after 5 minutes
Several times in mostly asian type bars recently I have been approached by J guys and k guys who talk and all that then after a while they write 'I love you'. Now am I missing something? Is this just a normal thing or am I being insulted in asian culture... lol. Only back in the non-asian frequented bars no one uses that method unless they are psycho or potential stalker material. Help, what you all think? Experiences, opinions?

Wow where are these places you are going to? Can I come along?
Just kidding Seriously, I don't notice Asian guys saying "I love you" any sooner than any other race guys. Maybe it's the drink or they just want to get you into bed, which is the goal mostly with meeting guys in bars lol

In Asian culture, writing "I love you" is just code for "Would you like to come back to my place and ....?" ![]() |

5 minutes? Wow, you won't get an "I love you" out of me within 5 months...
![]() Sounds kind of desperate in my opinion. Maybe it's a sign they're nervous? As in they don't really know how to keep your attention so they blurt out something that they think sounds romantic or something. |

probably the type of guy who assumes that telling a woman he loves them is the best way to get them into bed.

In Japan the actual phrase for "I love you" (aishiteru) isn't used often and instead "I really like you" (Daisuki da yo) is sort of the token "You're great, I adore you. Love love and all of that" thing. So in a society where "I love you's" generally aren't said then these people probably don't take it seriously, or they translate it differently in their heads. Our word "love" can be used in so many different ways, and for a language that usually has 7 different words that all mean the same thing... the multi level emotions that we feel towards people, be it friends, family, strangers or lovers, is stuck under a 1 word umbrella "Love". If there's any kind of language gap there then the word "love" is being used as "like" or feeling a "connection". If there's not any language or cultural gap and they were raised where you were then those people are psycho, or they think they're being cute... either that or they have absolutely no social understanding whatsoever.

Weird.
My Japanese bf said "I love you" (in English) after our first kiss, and I immediately said "uh, what?" We'd known each other for six months, but he'd only *just* asked me to be his girlfriend that night, so I thought it was way too soon for declarations of love. It turned out that he thought North Americans expected to say those words as soon as they'd started dating, whereas it generally takes me at least three months of dating someone to fall in love with them. Also, since he was saying it in English rather than Japanese, it seemed more like a nice gesture than a true expression of his feelings. But from guys you've just met? Weird, weird, weird... and I echo those who translate it as "Let's have sex." ![]() |
