I think it's no different than many other things. It's a problem when life becomes unbalanced and the time and effort spent on appearance eats into an overall balanced life. I think what the poster above talked about was more about hygiene, grooming and not being frumpy. If he's got a laundry list that turns a person's life into a series of endless hoop-jumping then he's got a problem he may want to address.

everyone is superficial o a point because when you first look at a person you look at there looks so so u always judge first on looks

I agree with taitai, but I also think we're becoming increasingly superficial as a society (at least in the US.) People seem to care more about their appearances and the aesthetics of their surroundings these days, the grunge look was definitely just a trend.

Sometimes I'm concerned I spend too much time grooming myself, but I really don't spend any more time polishing my appearance than I do doing other more important things. Most people feel good when they look their best, and there's nothing wrong with that. Besides people are usually nicer when you look like you made an effort.

like ella, sometimes i feel like i spend too much time grooming myself as well. it's really not to impress anyone, and i don't think it's entirely superficial. i do it because it makes ME feel better and it really sets the tone for my day.

Everyone is somewhat superficial. Without know people we make judgments about people all the time. Don't trust this person, be nice to this person, etc. Until you get to know them you are making superficial judgments. In regards to dating if the guy isn't cute to me I cannot date him. Daily grooming I try to look my best everyday. It influences the way I feel and the way people interact with me.

I like women who likes to groom...Hair especially. Make up...I can take it or leave it.( I like the smell of less make up more conditioner...lol)

I think women grooming is sensual and nice to watch. As for grooming myself...I would rather have some one else do it in a studio...but....lol

i think.. i can be done getting ready shower included in 40mins or less... i happen to like my make-up!! even tho.. i'm trying to live with out it.. i like small subtle smells.. right now kids and i are using vanilla sugar bath and bodyworks lotion. I can't afford the expensive stuff or the things that nickel and dime you(perfumes/powders/bodyspray)..i deal with what i can considering i have 3 little girls to teach the basic's to, which was not done for me as a kid.. my 10yr old is showing me things! so we put a little dab on our hands and run it all over our clothes and last for the day.. (really cheap inventive method) hubby shaves everyday.. he has to, i love his smooth baby face, by the time sunday hits..(just from the weekend) his facial hair has grown so much!! IF Monday wasn't the very next day.. i would have things to say to him!! lol.. but either way i like it. I will just be glad when he can let it grow longer so it doesn't poke me! nice clean skin.. is just nice..

yeah, it takes me ATLEAST 40 minutes to get ready as well. one of my friends is a total MAC junky and she has gotten me to love makeup. i know that men prefer minimal makeup, which i think is good, but i love putting my whole face on. i don't wear heavy makeup but lately, i really like dramatic eyeshadows and stuff.

I believe in taking care of yourself (skin, hair etc) because it's important to feel good in your own body as it gives you more confidence to face everyday.

I think that passage is more directed towards women rather then men.
