Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade
February 23, 5:30PM
Starts at the intersection of Market Street and Second Street, SF
The
Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade is one of the few remaining night illuminated parades in the country. Started in the 1860s as a means to educate the community about Chinese culture, the parade and festival have grown to become the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia. This parade features elaborate floats and costumes, exploding firecrackers, and the newly crowned
Miss Chinatown USA and her court. Watch out for the spectacular
Golden Dragon, which requires a team of over 100 men and women to carry throughout the streets of San Francisco.
