"Love" is Singapore's fav word!

"Love" is Singapore's favourite English word: survey

SINGAPORE: According to an online survey by the British Council, "love" is Singapore's favourite English word. This, along with Singapore's other top six words, was revealed on Wednesday.
After "love","cool" is the next favourite word, scoring over 1,200 votes.
"What I think most Singaporeans will use would be 'cool'. And everything can be cool, like your dressing is cool…going for a vacation will be cool…everything can be cool," says one Singaporean.
The top words were picked from a list of 60.
Says Eunice Crook, Director, Singapore British Council, "As part of our campaign with the Speak Good English Movement this year, we want to look at the way people use language.

"But this is also the British Council's 60th anniversary this year, so we thought 60 words for 60 years. 60 favourite words. And looking at people's favourite words also reflects the way people think."
And Singaporeans thought that besides "love" and "cool", "mom", "dream", "family" and "peace" are the best English words, in no particular order.
There were many other suggestions for favourite words: "I think Singaporeans' favourite English word would be 'food'," says one Singaporean.
"Exhausted," says another, "because we always have to work hard and we're always exhausted!"
Out of the 5,568 online entries, one winner was picked in a draw.
46-year-old Jonathan Goh had chosen the right words as Singapore's favourites.
He says, "I picked Cool, Dream, Love. Cool - basically because my kids, my two kids have been using this word almost everyday. And love, mainly because all of us need love. And dream, we all have dreams and want some of the dreams to come true."
And it looks like one of his dreams of having a vacation in Britain has come true, Jonathan won a pair of tickets to the United Kingdom, thanks to his entry. - CNA/yy
