Worse boss you ever had?

I came across this on the net and thought we all must have worst boss stories... So who was your worse boss and give us examples!

Quote:
AFL-CIO Names America's Worst Boss
Ever had a bad boss? I mean, a real stinker? I once had a boss who walked into the room where I was working, threw $5 down on the table and told me to go get him a pack of smokes. I stood up and walked out, never to return to that job.
But there are worse bosses ... such as the winner (or, perhaps, the loser) of this year's AFL-CIO My Bad Boss contest. The employee involved -- a young father with three children under the age of 8 -- filed paperwork to take some time off to help deal with the bills from his cancer treatment. John Dimsdale of Marketplace explained on Day to Day that the boss threw away the paperwork and then lied about receiving it, knowing it would take months, perhaps years, for the issue to be resolved.
Then there was the guy who hired the "creep" who had been stalking one of his waitresses -- and put him on the same shift as her. And the boss who made his employees continue to answer phones when there was a fire in the building -- until a security officer forced them to leave.
Abusive bosses are apparently a common problem. In a recent national survey, 44 percent of those polled said they had worked for an abusive boss, while 33 percent said their supervisors failed to keep promises. The Los Angeles Times reports that experts believe one reason for this trend may be that "short-staffed companies tap managers with lousy people skills." And the Internet has made it easier to share complaints about bad bosses -- just take a trip over to Your Career Change Resource - eBossWatch.
How about you? ... Got a terrible boss story to share?

I thought this would be quite the thread. I guess everyone has had the perfect boss? Hmm, must be a statistical anomaly!

Remember, no need to mention names or companies.

Bump!

When I was a games supervisor at an amusement park, the assistant manager (my boss) had a habit of requesting that certain female games employees, especially one of the people on my team (a very cute 16-year-old Puerto Rican girl), be sent to the basement (where the stuffed animal prizes were stored) to "give him a back rub." I was young then too (19) and really naive myself, and he was my boss, so I did what he asked. I noticed that whenever I asked her to go there to "give Steve a back rub," she made a face. But I didn't think that much of it because my employees often winced when they didn't get the assignments they wanted.

Then one day I was summoned to do the back rub. The jerk pulled down his pants so that he could get the "full" back rub, and he made verbal advances to me. I tactfully told him that I would not do it and left.

I reported him to the main games manager, who had no idea this was happening and put a stop to it. I talked to the girl who had been victim to this all summer, and, sure enough, he had done the same thing to her as he did to me. I felt so bad that as her supervisor I had been sending her to endure this. I apologized and told her that she absolutely did not have to do that ever again.

Arggggh. It was the early 1980s. If that were happening today there would be a sexual harassment suit that would make his head spin.

I shudder to think how far it actually went each time I sent her down there in the basement. If only she had told me the very first time it happened.

^Ever keep in touch with her? I wonder what she has to say about it now. There are many people who've brought sexual harassment suits years later. The Catholic Church has been hit with many public cases.

No, but that would be interesting. I think she really appreciated my putting a stop to it (albeit later than ideal), because she went home with her family to Puerto Rico and brought me back a Spanish dictionary from there (I was studying Spanish in college at the time).

I had this one boss last year that I am convinced had the beginnings of Alzheimers. He always forgot where he put things and often accused me of taking or stealing them. It was aggravating because you would just about end up fired over it. I finally left that job.

I was working in England at the time, and I had this really dick boss that was a chauvinistic pig . Everyone in the company knew how much he disliked women overall and how he thought so little of them. The amazing thing was how he was married 4 times. The wife he had at the time was a mail order wife from Thailand. He made no secret of the fact that that's how he got her. He would walk around boasting about it etc, and about how women in Thailand loved him because he had lots of money etc. He took 3 trips a year to Thailand just to use the women.. and he TOLD about his stories.

Well, he used to give me a hard time whenever he had the opportunity. He would talk down to me, bash me and all kinds of shit when I didn't do anything wrong. If I had been a less confident person, he would have really knocked me down emotionally and mentally. Well, I fought him back, each and every time and I could tell it really burned his ass up.

One particular thing he did one time, was scream at me while I was on the phone to a customer helping them with their account. He came up to my desk, threw some papers straight at me and screamed at the top of his lungs "Who the fuck are you talking to?". The customer said "Who is THAT?" It was bad enough he screamed at me, but for the customer to actually hear it too, was just not excusable. I asked the customer to hold.. put them on hold and screamed back at my boss "The President of the USA, who the FUCK do you think I'm talking to?" Then he turned and left my office, I got up and slammed the door. He left me alone after that for a while.. but I got another job not long after that .. THANK GOD.

You sound like a former accountant that used to work for me. I went into her office and screamed (for the hell of it) "Who the fuck are you talking to?" while she was on the phone with a customer. She put the phone on hold and yelled back "The president of the USA, who the FUCK do you think I'm talking to?" I turned around and left her office as she slammed the door behind me. She got another job shortly after that.

.... I'm just kidding. Please don't ban me

I had a slimy boss that was really good at promising but never actually delivering. Multiple times I asked to be transferred to a department more in line with my University education, and each time he promised that as as soon as a position opened up I'd be moved. The only way I ever found out about an opening was an announcement from HR welcoming the new hire to the department I was trying to get into. But what really got to me was one day I was called into his office. There he proceeded to tell me of a new position they were creating. It was a promotion, and they had three candidates, but I wasn't one of them. Needless to say I wasn't working there too long after that.

There was also a boss I had at a part time job in University with zero personality. I don't think I ever saw her smile or laugh once. One day I showed up a bit late and thought I'd try to get a reaction out of her. When she asked why I was late, I said "Improper use of birth control." Even though everyone else within earshot was laughing, I got no reaction from her whatsoever. Thank goodness I only had to work there for a few months.

Yep, I've had similar experiences to what you describe. What's worse, lying to your face or behind your back? Hmm..
