As the thread title says, what is the best advice you've ever got in your life that actually made a difference? In other words, advice you received and actually practiced to a positive result..

From my parents: "Hard work does not guarantee success. However, no hard work guarantees failure". (sounds like a fortune cookie message doesn't it? LOL) It taught me from early on that in order to reach my goals, I need to bust my butt!

From my roommate in college: "Don't be afraid to ask the hot girl out". It has a lot to do with self-confidence.

Debbie Gibsons 1990 album "Anything Is Possible" has lyrics that are the best when it comes to getting advices. It got me very far as a person whose in their early 20's.

"Judge not by words but by their actions..." Sounds cliche but many times I've taken this piece of advice to heart. People may smile, they may laugh, they may agree with you, they may love you, but if you can't trust them by their actions what's really left?? What people do and how they react really determines their behavior IMO. I've said many times on these boards, past behavior is an indicator of their future behavior.. Chinese people tend to make that poor assumption sometimes that "judge by what they say and not by their pen." That sounds like a precursory opposite to the western statement "..get everything in writing." I've been screwed in small time deals before and was able to get my money back but had to have/get connections half way around the world to do so. I'm never going through that load of crap again and become quite skeptical of what people say because of that. Pardon the expression "not getting my shirt taken off my back".
